First - I must apologize to my all friends and family following our journeys this year. For over a month I have been a slug, a well meaning one, but still a slug. I have not kept up my blog and now we are making a run for home. Why, you say, are you running for home? Since inquiring minds want to know, I will expound.
There are really multiple reasons. First - this whole country (except the corner where we have been for the last weeks) has gotten hotter than Hades (especially in the direction we were heading for the next 6-7 weeks) and we don't see it really getting much cooler before October. Why is that an issue - well, since hot, hot, hot is not, not, not my cup of tea (why do you think we left FL in the first place?) I , (and probably also for much of the time -Bruce) would spend that hot, hot, hot time in the cooler, cooler, cooler air conditioned Beast (but even then it can only cool to about 20 degrees less than the outside temps). Yes, I know, we could sit in the comfort of that AC and look out the windows of The Beast , enjoying the views of the campground and I could send Bruce out to cook (ha!), we could drive the car around with the AC on and enjoy the views, eat out more (because it gets even hotter inside when you cook)etc., etc. - but I can do all of that at home in a large, well air conditioned house with multiple rooms for me to spread out my projects and not kill Bruce or the cats. I would have the whole house and Bruce would have his multiple garages for entertainment instead of a shared 200 sq feet (much of which is taken up by furniture and other stuff) in The Beast .
Second - these ever loving cats are beginning to drive me coocoo (don't say it, don't even think it - I am not already there!). They are doing it on purpose too. They want to eat continually (if not eating they have nothing else to do but sleep and **!! - use your imagination) and they both think they are ready to go outside all the time., clawing the screen door and meowing like babies. They want contant attention, they walk on me (and I suspect Bruce too) during "our" designated sleep time (we definitely failed in getting them to observe our hours) and now Wolfy has taken to walking off the cabinet behind me, on to the top of the chair where I am sitting and then waltzing down my chest to get to the floor ( not a real pleasurable feeling when that cat needs his claws cut because the scratching boxes have not been enough to dull them) . He and I will be having a throwdown in the very near future and it will include more than me just throwing him down too. Personally, I am anticipating with glee their shock when they get home, run outside and find out that being outside means 98 degrees - not 78. Bet they beat feet to come back in and I may just make them stay out instead! It will serve them right!
And then there is the most important reason . Since our first grandchild is due October 7th, I want to participate in some of the getting ready activites - like shopping, the baby shower, etc.. Bruce agrees that this is probably the only time I will get to experience being a pre-grandmother (like my new word?) and we should definitely go home for me to enjoy this time (do you think he has ulterior motives?) So those are our reasons, OK at least they are mine, for us cutting the trip short and just coming home. (There is nothing to the rumour that we are about to kill each other),
Since , for us, it is a true run for home (less than 2 weeks from MT to home where it took us over 2 months to get to Oregon) - I will spend less time on the trip homeward (unless of course something spectacular occurs) and bring our travels up to date instead. Also - I have begun to get all my pictures posted and categorized by state, etc. Should make it easier to skip ahead if my flower, plant and sunset/sunrise pictures are getting out of hand in a certain segment. But - where are we RIGHT THIS MINUTE as I write this and get ready to post? We are in a KOA (oh say it isn't so) outside Belvidere, South Dakota. Just so you all understand why we chose KOA, it is darn hard to find anything but private campgrounds on the interstate with electricity (you know, to run that ever loving AC to keep those "wonderful" cats cool - and of course to help us sleep) and the farther east we drive, the less trees seem to be avaialbe for shade (at least until we get through the plains). So, we are hustling it through eastern MT, Eastern WY, SD, IA, etc. so we can get home (no I do not miss the south at this time of the year and I definitely do not miss the humidity - what I miss is my house and my king size bed! - oh and the people of course, that goes without saying). Tomorrow we will hit another KOA off I-29 in Iowa but then we will stop driving so much in one day and stay a couple of days in a CORP Park near Clinton, MO and another couple south of Memphis, again in a CORP park. That is more like it for us- and 10 -12 hours cooped up driving in The Beast is too much for all of us (especially Bruce). But more on that trip later. Just wanted to get back online, let you all know what we are doing and assure you that I AM BACK and will be posting regularly - with updates about what has already gone and what is happening currently as we traverse the interstates on our Run For Home!
Remember - Retire Early (read that as Live .Life Now!) and Drive Safely
I'm so glad to hear from you after all this time. Enjoy the trip home (and the pre-grandmother activities)
